2023-24 School Year: What was most represented ethnicity in Northampton County districts?

Black students comprised the largest ethnic group in Northampton County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 1,334 students attending Northampton County district schools, 41.8% were Black. White made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 28.5% of the student population.

In the previous school year, Black students were also the most common group in Northampton County districts, representing 41.9% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county dropped 1.8% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Northampton County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
