Accomack County's districts student body comprised mostly of Black students in 2023-24 school year

Black students comprised the largest ethnic group in Accomack County districts during the 2023-24 school year, according to reports from the Virginia Department of Education.

Of the 4,726 students attending Accomack County district schools, 36.8% were Black. White made up the second largest ethnic group, comprising 35% of the student population.

In the previous school year, white students were the most common group in Accomack County districts, representing 36.3% of the student body.

In the 2023-24 school year, the total number of students enrolled in the county dropped less than 0.1% compared to the previous year.

The main offices of all districts mentioned in the story are located in cities associated with Accomack County.

As of November 2023, according to Public School Review, in the 2023-24 school year, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
