Updates to ACPS Isolation and Quarantine Practices

28

Arcadia High School issued the following announcement on Feb. 2

At the February 1, 2022 School Board meeting, the Board voted that Accomack County Public Schools will follow the new CDC guidelines, effective immediately. Accomack County Public Schools will shorten their required isolation and quarantine guidelines and will move from a period of ten (10) days to five (5) days for those staff and students who test positive for COVID-19 or are considered close contacts.

Effective Immediately:

1. Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19, regardless of their vaccination status, will need to isolate for five (5) days rather than ten (10) days. During this isolation period, students will be allowed to learn remotely.

2. If the student or staff no longer has symptoms after day five (5), they can return to school. If they still have symptoms, they should continue to isolate at home until day ten (10).

3. On days six through ten (6-10), students and staff will be required to wear their masks at all times, including while outdoors. The only exception will be when eating or drinking. However, they will be encouraged to refrain from talking if possible when not wearing masks and are closer than 6ft social distance.

4. Students and staff, who are not yet vaccinated, and who have been identified as close contacts of someone who tested positive for COVID-19, will need to quarantine for five (5) days rather than ten (10) days. Students will learn remotely.

5. Students and staff, who are fully vaccinated, and who have been identified as a close contact of a person who tested positive for COVID-19, will not have to quarantine, but will be required to wear a mask around others for ten (10) days.

Implementing these new guidelines in conjunction with universal masking, social distancing when possible, and good hand hygiene, will provide the best opportunity for teaching and learning in Accomack County Public Schools.
