U.S. Representative Jennifer A. Kiggans said on April 18 that a $1.3 million federal investment will help modernize wastewater infrastructure serving public facilities in Northampton County, Virginia.
The funding supports the Community Center Septic System Project, which aims to replace outdated wastewater disposal systems with a modern onsite sewage system for both the Community Center and the Northampton County Public Schools Administration Building. The project addresses longstanding challenges faced by aging septic and wastewater systems in the region, according to Kiggans’ office.
“I was proud to join Northampton County officials for the presentation of $1.3 million in Community Project Funding to support the Community Center Septic System Project. This investment will replace the county’s outdated wastewater disposal system with a modern onsite sewage system that will serve both the Community Center and the Northampton County Public Schools Administration Building. This is an important step toward strengthening local infrastructure, and I look forward to the lasting impact it will have for Northampton County residents,” Kiggans said, according to her social media post.
In her social media post, Rep. Jen Kiggans addressed the presentation of Community Project Funding for the Northampton County Community Center Septic System Project as reported in the congressional update from Machipongo. The event brought together county administrators, board of supervisors members, and school leadership to recognize the collaborative effort that secured the federal investment for local facility upgrades according to her statement.
Northampton County on Virginia’s Eastern Shore has long relied on aging septic and wastewater systems that face challenges from high water tables and coastal conditions. Many older installations in the region have surpassed their design life and require modernization to protect public health and maintain compliance with Chesapeake Bay nutrient reduction standards. Such upgrades support thoughtful community growth while preserving local water quality according to Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.
Community Project Funding enables members of Congress to target resources for specific local infrastructure needs including water and wastewater improvements across districts. These allocations address critical gaps in public facilities and help communities meet regulatory requirements for safe and reliable services. Targeted investments like this one contribute to long-term stability for rural and coastal areas according to Kiggans’ official website.
