Fewer students enrolled in Northampton County's only school district in 2023-24 school year

The only school district in Northampton County suffered declining enrollment in the 2023-24 school year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

There were 1,334 students in Northampton County Public Schools District, 1.8% less than the year before.

Enrollment in Northampton County was steady with the state's trend of decreasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 54.5% of them were male, and 45.5% were female.

The most represented ethnicity among Northampton County Public Schools District students was Black, accounting for 41.8% of the student population.

Northampton County Public Schools District has a main office in Machipongo and is the only school district within Northampton County.

According to Public School Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14 in the 2023-24 school year, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools.
