Census Bureau: 5% of people in Accomack County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 33,388 citizens living in Accomack County in 2021, 95% said they were only one race, while 5% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Accomack County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 64.5% or 21,537 individuals. Following them, African American accounted for 28.5% and totaled 9,527 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Accomack County is 0.9% lower than the state average, which stands at 5.9%.
