Police Department Holds Awards Ceremony

City of Danville issued the following announcement on Feb. 24

On Thursday, the Danville Police Department recognized 55 agency personnel, seven community or law enforcement partners, and two agency K 9's with awards for outstanding actions and performance in 2021 at the annual awards ceremony held at the River Oak Church of God.  The Department had great success in 2021 through the efforts of every man and woman wearing a uniform, along with civilian support staff that keep the agency going.

The Danville Police Department saw amazing community support and partnerships continue to grow through 2021, and wish to continue to thank every member of the community as the support is truly felt by the agency.  

Some of the outstanding partners were awarded for their efforts to continue making the Danville Police Department and the community a better place.

Partnership Awards were presented to Mr. Tommy Bennett, Mrs. Shakeva Frazier, Special Agent E.W. Blackstock, and River Oak Church of God representatives Eric and Jessica Medford

Chiefs Coins were presented to law enforcement partners for outstanding actions, JR Kittrell of the Danville Adult Detention Facility and JR Phelps of the Danville Sheriff's Department

Unit Awards were presented to different units for outstanding performance and results, Professional Standards, VCGU, CDIU, Northwest Quarter and Southeast Quarter, along with Community Engagement Services

Service Award was presented to K 9 Tina 

Meritorious Service Award for completion of 25 years of service  was presented to Lt. J.W. McLaughlin 

Professional Staff of the Year was awarded to Penny Bryant and Donald Smith

Officers of the Year were awarded to Officer G.B. Mayhew and Detective W.R. Merrill

Supervisor of the Year was awarded to Sgt. J.D. Dixon

Lifesaver awards were presented to Officer J.D. Frost with K9 Partner Rooster  and (2) Life Saver Awards to Corporal I.J. Smith

Purple Heart was presented to Ret. Lieutenant C.H. Allen

The agencies 3rd highest award, Distinguished Service Medal was awarded to Corporal D.C. Lancaster, Corporal  B.P. Crozier, and posthumously to Officer C.R. Agee.

The Chief's Award was presented to Investigations Corporal R.P. Wright and Captain H S Richardson
