Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Oct. 13

Riverside Health System has been recognized by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in the "Best Hospitals" issue of U.S. News & World Report as one of the top health systems in the U.S. for providing top quality care to heart patients in 2021. Two of the system’s hospitals, Riverside Regional Medical Center (RRMC) in Newport News and Riverside Walter Reed Hospital (RWRH) in Gloucester, were recognized for their commitment to quality and process improvement and participation in National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) with the ACC.

The U.S. News & World Report issue recognizes Riverside’s commitment to provide renowned hospital care for heart patients. RRMC and RWRH were both recognized for their Chest Pain Accreditation and RRMC additionally for their participation in the Chest Pain- MI, Registry, EP Device Implant Registry and LAAO Registry. Through participation in the NCDR, both RRMC and RWRH have robust quality improvement programs using data to drive clinical improvements and quality of care for heart patients.

ACC's NCDR is cardiology's most established, comprehensive registry offering, consisting of eight hospital–based registries and two outpatient registries. More than 2,400 hospitals and over 8,500 outpatient providers worldwide participate in one or more of the ACC’s ten registries, forming a comprehensive network of cardiovascular care providers committed to ensuring evidence-based cardiovascular care, improving patient outcomes and lowering health care costs.

"Providing the highest quality cardiovascular care to our patients has always been our top priority," said Edward Chu, M.D., cardiologist and Cardiovascular Service Line Chief for Riverside Health System. "It's an honor to receive this recognition and we remain committed to improving care for our cardiovascular patients."

Riverside has been recognized by the ACC since 2014 when RRMC received their Chest Pain accreditation followed by RWRH in 2015. RRMC and RWRH are 2 of only 30 hospitals in Virginia to be recognized for their Chest Pain accreditation.

"We are proud of our cardiovascular teams for continuing to excel and provide the highest quality cardiovascular care amid the challenges of responding to COVID-19," said Michael Dacey, M.D., president and Chief Operating Officer of Riverside Health System. "This recognition demonstrates our commitment to provide the highest quality care tailored for each patient to achieve the best clinical outcomes."
