Eastern Shore Community College issued the following announcement on Aug. 31

Eastern Shore Community College recently hosted Valkyrie Enterprises for a tour of the new ESCC Academic Building on campus in Melfa. Chief Growth Officer of Valkyrie, Matthew Orsino, presented the college with a check for $5,000 for student support.  Orsino explained, “we consider the college a valuable partner in providing skilled and talented individuals in both the trades and information technology.”

President Shaeffer commented that “there is great hope and excitement surrounding this partnership and the future internship opportunities it will produce with Valkyrie’s interest in mentoring students for careers both on the Shore and across the country.”  This partnership coincides with the goal of ESCC’s recently announced “Contact to Career” Program where students are engaged from their first contact with the college, all the way to employment, and benefit with paid internships and awarded credit for work experience.

Valkyrie is a U.S. Navy contractor based in Virginia Beach that has recently established a presence at Wallops Island to support the operations there. The plan is to expand from their current four part-time employees to over one hundred and fifty new hires in the next twelve months.  This means significant new opportunities for students at Eastern Shore Community College.
